Preschool program

Exploration Station’s preschool program runs Monday–Friday, 8:30 – 2:00, with 13 students ages 2.9–5.

The class is led by two experienced and licensed preschool teachers with advanced degrees in childhood development.

Our indoor and outdoor classrooms are enriched with various science-themed activities and include many ways for students to explore engineering and building. Within our bright and colorful space, there are endless opportunities for creative, imaginative play, which encourages curiosity, creative thinking, and problem-solving. These skills are essential for developing brains and serve as a solid foundation for building blocks of learning. We also focus on acquiring positive social skills with an introduction to academics, which both come naturally in our education-infused environment.

Students participate in a structured daily schedule that includes a free choice time, circle, directed learning, outdoor play, storytime, and snacks and lunch daily. We center many of our themes around the seasons and focus much of our work around science and art.

Throughout the week, students go on several field trips around the island. We visit many parks, forests, playgrounds, and sometimes local community centers such as the Community Music School.

Our high-energy teachers use songs and group games throughout the day to make learning fun and exciting. Graduating students move forward from our small learning environment into kindergarten with a strong sense

of confidence, individuality, and the ability to function within a larger classroom.
